Biography
Dr Anthony Lewis, PhD, is a Blairmore Associate. Born in Edinburgh, he is a graduate of Manchester, Leicester and Edinburgh Universities where he studied the history of art, cultural resource management and museum studies. He received his PhD in History from the University of Edinburgh in 2006. As well as his work as a Blairmore Associates with that of Curator of Scottish History at Glasgow Life Museums (a role he has occupied since 2006). Throughout his career, he has both worked as a museum professional as well as a researcher of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Scottish architectural and heritage producing catalogues and photographic records for archive services, architecture departments and interested parties. He has been a member of council for the Glasgow Archaeological Society and Secretary of the Dalrymple Donaldson Trust. His noted museum exhibitions include the ‘How Glasgow Flourished’ exhibition at Kelvingrove Museum, coinciding with the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which he curated and project managed. In 2025, he produced the King James VI and I film for the Glasgow Museums and for the National Archives, London. He has worked closely with archives, communities, museums, and universities to produce acclaimed exhibitions, media content and learning resources. His publications include, The Builders of Edinburgh New Town, 1767-1795 (Spire Books, 2014). Outwith museums, research and writing, he has contributed to his local community’s cricket club – the West of Scotland cricket club as a player and finally as its chairman and now acts as a honorary Vice President. As a director and chairman he helped to raise £100,000 in grants to fund community sports and local people having a chance to play sport and cricket on the ground.
